Acrylic on MDF wood panel. 26ft x 15ft (approx) Part of a series of 3 site-specific murals commissioned by Kings College Hospital (1994-97), located on the 70-metre-long main corridor.
This painting explores the universality of celebratory dancing throughout time and different cultures. The composition was built from drawings and sketches made at an ethnic Greek banqueting hall in Camberwell which specialised in Wedding feasts. I worked there as a Waiter in 1993-4 and witnessed many parties of various Community groups in which African, Greek and Jamaican music and dancing were all encountered, often in ethnically mixed weddings.
