The final 6th state, after selective, minimal alterations in the studio the following Sunday May 12th. At this point I gave the image a final layer of liquid fixative (using a blow-driven spray diffuser tool). You can also use unperfumed hairspray, but professionally made fixative will afect the colours less. Fixing drawings always tend to make light, opaque colours a bit less bright, and more transparent. And also tends to heighten tonal contrast generally. Sometimes I work a final selective layer on top, if I want to bring the brightness and opacity back to the lighter hues, - and this 'final-final' layer I usually leave unfixed.
