Intimate and familial painted images that fuse elements of portraiture with elements of landscape composition.
Acrylic on MDF wood panel. 24ft x 18ft (approx) Part of a series of 3 site-specific murals commissioned by Kings College Hospital (1994-97), located on the 70-metre-long main corridor. 'Heart Of The Hospital' references the inter-connectivity of all the different departments, practitioners and specialists within a busy London teaching Hospital. A traditional 'Florence Nightingale open-ward' with patients and family visitors is the central image of the painting. These functional, everyday concerns are juxtaposed with the vision of a patient's dream in which he sees the Hospital as an Ark in a constant state of rebuilding and renewal.
