The Dancing, music and culture of the UK Northern Soul Scene has been for me a recurring subject for images expressing togetherness/loneliness, inclusion/exclusion. These works are also a commentary on a long-lived love affair with Black American Soul music. They are visual markers of exploration through 3 decades of music, dancing, people and places,.
Hand-drawn, hand-printed Hard-Ground Copperplate etching. Only 2 prints ever pulled, but the plate still exists. Begun as a student at RCA in 1987, then abandoned. Reworked in 1992-1994, Northern Soul dance-steps are imagined over a backdrop of two interlocking views of The City Of Leeds, near where I lived from 1982-1986.
