Altar Native

Altar Native = Alternative approach to presenting live music and live art simultaneously, (as devised by promoter Chris Greenwood in the series of live gigs presented at St Peters Church, Walworth from 2018-2021. In these events I drew/painted the band live from my station at the side of the stage, with my usual ‘travel easel’ set-up. As I drew, my activity and canvas are projected live in real time onto a huge back-drop screen behind the band via a video camera. So tge two creative activities of music-making and art-making happen simultaneously, feeding eachother in a circular process. In collaboration with the Church’s homelessness charity, the 4 or 5 live drawings made on each occasion were sold via auction to the audience. 50% of the sales profits were donated to the charity. The project, hosted by St Peters, was part-funded by the Arts Council.

Impromptu Live

Impromptu (The Jesse Doniach Trio), drawn Live on location during the gig at St Peters Church, Walworth on 08/12/2018. This was the first of a long-running series of combined live music & Live art events with the project title 'Altar Native'. Conceived and curated by music promoter Chris Greenwood. Funded by The Arts Council Of Great Britain. As I drew, the developing drawing was projected via Go-pro video camera link to a large screen behind the band, within the proscenium of the stage. So the image unfolds simultaneously as part of the performance, - magnified, behind the music performance action.
